Dance Ebola Away - Amsterdam

Dance Ebola Away - Amsterdam

On 24th of January. CARD Europe, in partnership with several Liberian organisations (see below) in the Netherlands, arranged “Dance Ebola Away” at Wicked Grounds, 2e, Schinkelstraat 26, Amsterdam 1075 TT, for the purpose of raising funds for providing Ebola protective kits and otherwise helping people in Liberia.

Our over all impression is that the event was successful in many ways. People enjoyed themselves and seemed to regard the event as an important event to support the Liberian people in their struggle against Ebola. People enjoyed themselves with lots of good music, food and beverages, speeches, dancing, a raffle draw, photo sessions etc. You will see some photos from it to the right (click for bigger photos). Economically we had hoped for a better result.

The event was a follow-up of the popular "Run Ebola Away" events in Oslo and London (see other pages on our site).

As with the previous events, the money raised goes to the work that CARD Europe and its local partners, CARD Liberia and ZOA Liberia (the Dutch NGO), do in Liberia against Ebola and its devastating effects on society, hereunder helping the many orphans and children that have been without school for months.

Many people contributed to this memorable event, including the Liberian Ambassador to Belgium and the Netherlands (His Excellency J. Kamara), Ms. Africa NL 2013-14 (Ms. Rose Sallaymatu Kargbo) and the Liberian author Vamba Sherif, who all contributed with their presence and speaches. The British pianist and entertainer James Carter Stringfellow, together with Tanya A. Garnett (singing) and a DJ made sure we had lots of good music and entertainment all evening. Approximately 60 people showed up at the event and contributed by buying entrance fees, food, drinks etc. Last, but not least, a number of volunteers contributed by doing all the different tasks and activities necessary to carry out an event like this.

We thank you all from our hearts!
